electric speedboat

The high-performance drive technology from the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG electric sports car has been fitted into a Cigarette Racing off-shore powerboat to created the world’s most powerful and fastest electrically driven motor boat. Launched in time for the Miami international boat show, the 38 foot (11.6 meter) long offshore water craft outputs 2,200 horsepower producing a maximum torque of 2,213 ft-lb. It’s also capable of reaching top speeds of over 160 km/h using formula 1 derived lithium-ion high-voltage battery technology. Luxury Osros Floating Island

luxury yacht

Designed by an Austrian company the Osros floating island includes six luxury double bedrooms, with space for 12 residents and four staff members. The boat is priced at £3 million. The manufacturers describe the island as an “autonomous power supply based energy system” powered by a noiseless wind energy system. The island also features over 120 m2 of solar panels. Heat recovery from the sea water is used for heating and air conditioning. The company explains: “In the beginning, my goal was to create an exclusive, high-quality hotel chain based on floating platforms. With the progress of the project it became clear that the attractive and unusual concept of Orsos Islands should not be limited to only a selected group of people. Orsos Islands should reach a much broader audience, people with an awareness of modern life and a feeling of responsibility towards the environment.” The Austrian company began construction of the prototype in Germany and Hungary. The company’s goal is to show the structure to the public by the end of 2013.

The SeaOrbiter: Futuristic Marine Research Vessel

marine vessel

This is not another futuristic hotel. It’s a futuristic oceanographic marine vessel that would be constructed with the sole aim of exploring the world’s oceans. Called The SeaOrbiter it would serve as a scientific laboratory as scientists explore the places that cover two-thirds of our planet and contain 80% of all life on Earth — the oceans. The brainchild of French architect Jacques Rougerie, The SeaOrbiter would also be the world’s first vertical ship standing at an impressive 170 feet (51m) tall. In order to make the vessel as stable as possible, two-thirds of its structure would remain underwater, giving the craft buoyancy, as well a “fish-collection system for studies of the pelagic ecosystem, plankton biodiversity, and fish stocks.” The SeaOrbiter concept, the $52.7 million project, has been discussed for over 12 years and as been dismissed on countless occasions as a pipe dream, but it seems like the project has gained traction and construction is rumored to start in October with the vessel launching next year. Luxury Amare yacht concept was created by industrial designer Dawid Dawod. “Stunning wood accents are met with polished handles, steering wheel, knobs and other fixtures in rich detail to create an elegant yet masculine aesthetic. For the thrill seeker inside, it also comes standard with a 350 HP water-jet engine. The Amare’s classic craftsmanship combines with new technology, using rigid inflatable boat (RIB) technology to achieve its aggressive, dynamic look. Designed with human boat behavior in mind, the Yacht’s architecture also includes a fully functioning kitchen on the outer deck, sofas for relaxation, a deck for sunbathing and a canvas top for bad weather. Another characterizing design element of the boat are the rails that follow the length, functioning as handles as passengers walk and also as holders for the canvas top.” Take a look!

September 24th in:  Automotive Design, Boat Design

luxury yacht

Do you remember luxury yacht-island that we’ve shown you some time ago? Creators of this luxury yacht Yacht Island Design Ltd. again amazed us with their new concept – Project Utopia. Project Utopia is circular in shape, measures 330 feet in diameter, and spans 11 decks of living space. “The top decks are covered with a glass canopy, which allows sunlight to filter into the interior. The glass canopy can also be opened when the weather permits, providing fresh air to the top floors. When open, the top floor acts as an outdoor pool deck , complete with central swimming area. The vessel remains stable in choppy waters, thanks to four platform legs that anchor it into place, even during extreme conditions. Each leg has a propeller that allows the island to move at slow speeds in a steady manner. Four helicopter pads provide access to the island via air, and wet docks house boats and jet skis for recreational use. The interior hosts a retail area, a theater, a restaurant area, bars, nightclubs and a casino.”
