D’Light – Elegant Kinetic Award Winning Lamp

The D’Light is a kinetic lighting device that adapts its style based on the kind of mood you’re trying to set. With the ability to orient itself in various different shapes, each with a completely unique character, the D’Light works beautifully as a table lamp, a floor lamp, a hanging pendant lamp, or even an ambient kinetic-artpiece deserving to be in the center of your home! The lamp comes with a table-top base, but can be attached to any outlet, as long as it has the freedom to freely shape-shift. Fitted with a smart-bulb on the inside that can change colors, the lamp has a honeycomb-esque paper pattern on the outside that can freely rotate, and comes mounted on a specially designed frame that turns via a motor, controlled by the D’Light app. The highly intriguing honeycomb pattern not only allows the lamp to rotate the way it does, but it also does a rather wonderful job of scattering the light. The honeycomb lampshade is tear-resistant and washable. The jellyfish-esque D’Light is a winner of the Good Design Award, the iF Design Award, and the IDEA Design Award. Plus, all profits from the D’Light go to providing educational scholarships (Donation + Light), reinforcing the metaphor of light being a symbol of knowledge and wisdom! The ‘Alien Torchere’ Modern Wooden Floor Lamp

This far-out floor lamp designed by Dmitry Grigoriev in collaboration with designer Alexey Zudin takes on the familiar shape of a playful UFO! Called the Alien Torchere, its exaggerated legs and fluid shape are reminiscent of ones you might see in retro science fiction flicks. Decorative blue inlays inspire the imagination and look like windows for curious creatures inside! They also emit a cool blue light when the lamp is switched on. In contrast with its otherworldly form, its material composition is natural and organic in raw wood that’s polished to extraterrestrial-like perfection! And don’t forget to check other floor lamps Woobia and Daiana.

Globe – The Terrarium Lamp By Richard Clarkson Studio

Globe is a suspended handblown glass ball in 12″ and 8″ diameters, available with or without an intergraded LED light source. The design of the Globe creates a unique viewing perspective of plants and other elements, often providing intense magnification or complete disappearance. Originally designed as a terrarium for ferns, moss, succulents and aquatic fauna, we quickly discovered exciting new possibilities and applications beyond plants. The nearly invisible power cord used for each globe is made possible by utilizing micro-wire technology developed for wearable electronics. Combined with discrete but incredible strong stainless steel cable the Globe floats in the air, drawing the full focus to the elements inside the Globe. At heart the Globe is a planter but it can also be used in a number of other ways; from protecting and displaying objects to diffusing and refracting light. For instance when filled with water the Globe acts as a spectacular lens – with the addition of a few drops of white or colored food dye it is possible to create some truly stunning light effects. In this way Globe is very much an evolving vessel of both matter and light.

The lights are placed inside the ring-shaped frame and when you turn the lights on, the frame will lit, creating an ethereal Zen feeling. Origami-Inspired Animal Lamps

Today we want to show you beautiful origami inspired lamps. “The idea came to life last Winter when Hugo surprised Teresa with two rough versions of paper models – a penguin and an owl – each with a lamp inside. It was the start of our paper lamp enterprise which combines DIY papercraft modeling with illumination. From then on, the designs evolved, new ideas were developed, materials were tested and our workspace was invaded by all sorts of animals. This September, we unveil our clan of paper lamps. Our designs are inspired by the origami concept of folding paper figures and result in a group of original companions to have around the house. Each of them presents individual features enhanced by their movement and position. Glowing in the dark is the ultimate effect to bring out their liveliness. Models are made with high-quality 160g paper and colours were carefully selected to create different and unique ambiences when the paper lamps are lit up. OWL paper lamps consist of a DIY kit with the necessary items to assemble our designs. We challenge people to give their personal imprint and actively participate in the making of the models. A completed DIY paper lamp could be a good idea for those who choose to offer personalized and exclusive gifts that make a difference.”

The Monk Concrete Lamp By SKELD Design

Passionate about the cosmos and “out of this world” design, the team behind the Kiev-based SKELD Design studio creates lighting and furniture seemingly brought back from the future or at least from a parallel universe. The geometric-inspired products have a contemporary style as well as a distinct personality, and The Monk is a perfect example. Its silhouette is instantly recognizable, though it may take a few moments to make the connection, as the shapes have been stylized in an abstract design. The Monk as a merely refined modern lamp without thinking of the beloved green Jedi master. The resemblance with the popular character didn’t come to light until the 3D sketching step of the design, when the two pyramid shapes were brought to life. For obvious reasons, the team had to give up on their initial plan of naming the lamp The Jedi, but the new name works in the lamp’s favor, as it lends the product a touch of ambiguity and accentuates the silhouette’s connection to a related architectural structure, the abbey. The two sections of the lamp are made of concrete and ash hardwood, in a gorgeous contrast of tones and textures; a simple metal button and a textile power cord complete the minimalist appearance. Like all the products made by SKELD Design, The Monk is designed and assembled by hand in the company’s workshop, with each lamp made-to-order.

All Around Lamp by Maria Novozhilova

Echoing the silhouettes of major cities, like Milan and Sydney, the All Around Lamp is a geometric floor lamp that doesn’t have a top or bottom. Designed by Maria Novozhilova, these tetrahedron-shaped lamps use LED technology to create a warm ambiance. The thin frame of the lamp holds each engraved piece of plastic that features abstract drawings referencing those city capitals. Moreover, the All Around Lamp is a hybrid object – if you flip the larger-sized lamp, it even turns into a small side table.

Elegant Wooden Whale Lamp

Designer Eduard Golikov has created an elegant wooden whale sculpture that doubles as an unconventional lighting solution. Crafted from birch wood, each piece is laser cut and assembled into a series of concentric shapes that form a sleek and stylized version of the beloved water-based creature. After its construction, Golikov coats the lamp in white paint and inserts an Edison bulb to cast a soft glow. The illuminated whale can be displayed a couple of ways. It can rest on a desk as a table lamp, but it’s also equipped with a suspension system—this allows it to float and seemingly “swim” in midair, adding a dream-like element to your space. Golikov sells these whimsical creatures in his Etsy shop.

Dome Lamp by Benedetta Tagliabue for Bover

Intricately assembled from hundreds of wood fragments, designed by Benedetta Tragliabue, the Bover Dome LED Pendant is an extravagant display of natural materials met with powerful LED technology. Star bursts and Fibonacci sequence patterns unfurl from the central column of the shade, gradually forming a dome silhouette with remarkable lighting effects. The LED module is housed in a compact metal cylinder that matches the canopy, and hovers slightly above the handcrafted shade – suspended separately but together. Depending on the height from the ceiling to the floor, shadows can be exaggerated or focused below, fulfilling artistic and functional roles for a space. The Bover collection, made in Barcelona, is inspired by the light playing within the sky and sea. Balancing quality and form resulting in a non-temporal style capable of adapting comfortably to future times. Bover’s products range from ceiling lights, pendants, and wall sconces to floor and table lamps.

Elegant Papier-Mâché Lamp Sculptures

For nearly 10 years, Sophie Mouton-Perrat and Frédéric Guibrunet have combined soft lighting with delicate paper craft to create ethereal sculptures. Working under the name Papier à êtres, the duo uses the papier mâché technique to construct life-sized women clad in elegant, billowing gowns that double as lamps. The top portion of the unconventional, all-white lantern features the ladies’ upper bodies while their pleated skirts illuminate the space. To produce these creations – which have been displayed in locales like the Paris Opera House – Mouton-Perrat and Guibrunet work in true collaboration. They are each responsible for half of the sculptures: Mouton-Perrat shapes the figures and concentrates on characters’ facial features, hair, dress, and graceful poses, while Guibrunet develops the base and lighting. Once assembled, the couple’s handiwork is a stunning fusion of art and technology. Although it appears as one cohesive piece, their individual contributions shine at separate times. When the lights are off, Mouton-Perrat’s beautiful details are visible. Once it’s dark, however, the exquisite yellow glow is all that’s seen.
