Vintage 1929 Mercedes-Benz 710 SS Sport Tourer is available for bidding for $6m+

The Mercedes-Benz 710 SS is one of the most highly sought after cars in the world and for good reason – its combination of performance and design made it a supercar in its day and spawned the legendary SSK race cars. Sporting a massive 7.1-liter inline-six with a throttle-controlled supercharger, the car made 200 horsepower with a lightened, short-wheelbase chassis that was one of the best in its day.

This example has a unique American connection by way of France, with the chassis being shipped to New York before crossing the Atlantic again to Paris, where it received bodywork from the firm Fernandez & Darrin, ran by American coachbuilder Howard “Dutch” Darrin. Darrin also bodied cars from the likes of Hispano-Suiza and Packard, and his fingerprints are all over this 710 SS from the flowing, aerodynamic front fenders to the louvered hood. Capable of 124 MPH, this classic is the height of Mercedes-Benz in the early 20th century. Also be sure to check the best vintage bikes and 35 Best Vintage Motorcycle Helmets.
