AR Contact Lenses Place Micro-Displays Inside Your Eyes

Not so long ago we’ve told you about VR glasses. And now it’s time for another news. California-based tech startup Mojo Vision has revealed its smart contact lenses which use Augmented Reality to place information inside of the wearer’s eyes. The company’s forthcoming Mojo lens AR lenses use 14k pixels-per-inch micro-displays to project statistics like health tracking and other data.

They also pack wireless radio, image-recognition tech (which it claims will be able to understand the activities you’re engaged in, so as to not disturb you when it’s not wanted), and motion sensors. Mojo calls this eyes-up experience invisible computing, a platform that enables information to be instantaneous, unobtrusive and available hands-free.

The lenses are still in development but the company is currently demonstrating a working prototype of the device and plans an early application of the product designed to help people struggling with low vision through enhanced image overlays. This application of the Mojo lens is designed to provide real-time contrast and lighting enhancements as well as zoom functionality.

Augmented Reality

Mojo Vision has announced a new partnership with the Vista Center for the blind and visually impaired, a Palo Alto-based nonprofit which offers rehabilitation services to more than 3,000 children and adults with blindness or impaired vision each year. It still needs to secure us food and drug administration approval as contact lenses are considered medical devices but the news makes it a viable and a valuable piece of tech.

“After extensive research, development, and testing, we are excited to reveal our product plans and begin sharing details about this transformative platform,” said Drew Perkins, CEO at Mojo Vision. “Mojo has a vision for invisible computing where you have the information you want when you want it and are not bombarded or distracted by data when you don’t. The technology should be helpful, and it should be available in the moment and fade away when you want to focus on the world around you.”

“The Mojo Lens is the first step in delivering invisible computing to the world. We look forward to sharing more information and demonstrating future prototypes as we get closer to bringing our product to market.”
