Black and White Optical Illusions Pictures by Russian Duo

Coming to you Russian duo from Moscow, the _ Humiforms_ project is a surreal mix of fashion and optical illusions. Made by photography duo Alexander Khokhlov and Veronika Ershova the show sees fashion models changing into everyday objects. The color palette is restricted to white and black, like reminiscent of a massive, human-sized baseball board. Models transform into violins, badminton birdies, dandelions, etc. For every shot, the couple spent about 2 to six hours, projecting each detail to perfection. 10 Crazy 3D Optical Illusions Which Will Blow Your Mind

Optical illusions are well, illusions. They are created by simple manipulations of lines, colors and patterns to confuse our brains while receiving sensory inputs, thus messing up with the output. With each passing day, optical illusions are increasingly being used in art, entertainment and e ven in scientific audience-driven endeavours. Playing with perspective is the biggest operating force behind any work of art. Since time immemorial, artists have been coming up with blazing new ideas and techniques to demand full sensory engagement from the viewers – something that would give a big jerk to their brains and make them go ‘Whoa!’. Here is a list of 10 such installations with optical illusions that will simply and literally sweep you off your feet.

BULBING Lamps – Table Lamps with 3D Effect

Nir Chehanowski of Tel Aviv-based Studio Cheha, has designed the BULBING lamps , a new collection of lighting, that are made using etched acrylic glass to give them a 3D effect. “At Studio Cheha, our design philosophy is all about reimagining everyday objects with a cool and creative difference! With this, Studio Cheha is excited to announce the launch of our 3rd Kickstarter campaign, ” by BULBING lamps – Light Up Your Life – AGAIN! ” – a natural evolution of our BULBING series. Meet ZIGGI , DESKI and CLASSI! The three newest members of our original lighting family. This series, designer Nir Chehanowski, has chosen to rekindle his designs, offering bigger and brighter optical illusion lamps that aim to alter your perception of space and form by using 3D shapes as the basis of his 2D designs. Our new lamps are inspired by classic and vintage-style desk lamps with a modern twist. In addition to increasing the scale, this series, Nir has opted for an industrious approach to the shape of the lampshade while keeping his signature optical illusion and 3D magic as the focal point of the design. Each flat LED ” by BULBING ” lamp is made from a thick and strong sheet of acrylic glass that has been etched with dozens of intricate lines. We are able to create a sense of dimensionality, as LED light travels through the lines illuminating the design and creating a powerful optical illusion. New features include bright LED light with a lifespan of 50,000 hours, a warm glow, and dimmer. Where to shine the light!”

BULBING – Magical Lamp Design

Studio Cheha in Tel Aviv, Israel is behind this innovative LED lamp that tricks your mind into thinking it’s looking at a 3D object. BULBING is a 2D lamp created using 3D wire-frame images. By transferring those images onto 2D materials, through a laser machining process, your eyes become fooled. The changeable design is made from acrylic glass sheet and the base is made of plywood birch. The light is LED, giving it a lifespan of 50,000 hours. As it states on Kickstarter, “All circuitry is wired, adhering to the highest electric standards. Upon placing the acrylic glass design in the lamp’s base (where the LED is positioned), the light breaks through the etched surface.”

Anamorphic 3D Illusion Drawings by Alessandro Diddi

When Italian artist Alessandro Diddi puts pencil to paper, his works really come to life. He creates clever anamorphic pencil drawings that, when viewed from a particular angle, appear to pop out of the page in three dimensions. These drawings are achieved by a trick of the mind, using shading and angles to give them a life of their own and make them “leap off the page”. “I want my drawings to put across the message that the eye can trick the mind and make you believe that there are dimensions that are not really there,” Alessandro.

Amazing 3D Murals

John Pugh is a trompe l’oeil artist focusing primarily on mural painting. "I have found that the "language" of life-size illusions allow me to communicate with a very large audience. It seems almost universal that people take delight in being visually tricked. Once captivated by the illusion, the viewer is lured to cross an artistic threshold and thus seduced into exploring the concept of the piece." – John Pugh. Check out these 3D murals and you will be suprised how real they look.
