Founded by Battista “Pinin” Farina in 1930, Pininfarina is an elite Italian automotive design firm and coachbuilder that’s headquartered out of Turin. Responsible for penning the bodywork of countless iconic exotics including models from Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lancia, and Maserati, Pininfarina is undoubtedly best known for its vehicle designs, though the company has also lent its immense talents and eye for design to a variety of other industries and applications- the latest of which sees Pininfarina link up with Japanese startup INKAR to create a limited run of bespoke, made-to-order iPhone cases.
Made for the 13 Pro and 14 Pro-spec smartphones, the Pininfarina x INKAR iPhone Case is individually crafted in Italy on a custom, made-to-order basis with the aim of allowing buyers to receive cases that match their car. To achieve this, the case is being offered with a wide range of configurable options, with buyers given the ability to select between five different colors, two lens trim leathers, and ten base plates made from constructions such as carbon fiber, aluminum, leather, or wood. Meticulously developed and designed over the course of two years, the Pininfarina x INKAR iPhone Case also boasts incredibly high-end craftsmanship and extremely precise tolerances down to less than 0.004″.
Penned by Pininfarina staffer Paolo Lugaro, the case’s actual shape and industrial design have been visually inspired by the Italian design house’s Ferrari 512S Modulo – an ultra-sleek, Paolo Martin-designed, wedge-shaped concept car that first broke cover at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show and ended up taking home more than 20 international design awards. In addition to sporting an individual engraved serial number, each unit also comes with an NFT that grants access to INKAR’s membership program and comes with exclusive/early access to pre-order future INKAR collaborations.
Limited to just 99 iPhone 13 Pro casess and 99 iPhone 14 Pro cases worldwide, the Pininfarina x INKAR iPhone Case will be available for order starting on December 1. Starting at $10,000, the case will be available for preorder through Gumball 3000. Also don’t forget to check cool and multifunctional iPhone cases.
