Aston Martin is best known for its elegant grand tourers and high-performance supercars, but the AMB 001 takes the British marque into an entirely different territory. Developed in collaboration with historic motorcycle manufacturer Brough Superior, this limited-edition superbike brings Aston Martin’s design language to two wheels, combining sculptural carbon-fiber bodywork with an unusual turbocharged engine and an exclusive, track-focused character.
First unveiled in 2019, the AMB 001 was conceived as a motorcycle that would look just as striking standing still as it would moving at speed. Its flowing bodywork, sharp aerodynamic surfaces, and signature Stirling Green finish with lime accents give it an unmistakable Aston Martin identity. Carbon fiber, machined aluminum, and titanium components contribute to its lightweight construction, while the low, aggressive profile makes the bike look closer to a miniature hypercar than a conventional superbike.
Power comes from a 997cc, 88-degree V-twin engine equipped with a turbocharger. The original AMB 001 produces around 180 horsepower, an extraordinary output for a motorcycle of this size. A six-speed gearbox sends power to the rear wheel, while the lightweight construction helps keep the dry weight around 180 kilograms. Although it was never designed to compete directly with the fastest bikes in the world in terms of outright top speed, its turbocharged powertrain and exceptional power-to-weight ratio make it a compelling example of high-performance motorcycle engineering.
The chassis is equally distinctive. Rather than relying on a conventional telescopic front fork, the AMB 001 uses a Fior-style front suspension system with articulated arms. This unusual arrangement separates steering and suspension functions in a different way from traditional forks, contributing to the motorcycle’s distinctive engineering character. Carbon-fiber bodywork and carefully sculpted aerodynamic elements complete the design.
The AMB 001 is not road legal and was developed exclusively for track use. Production was limited to just 100 examples, each hand-built by Brough Superior in Toulouse, France. Its rarity, unusual turbocharged powertrain, and Aston Martin styling have made it a particularly distinctive proposition for collectors who appreciate motorcycles as both engineering objects and design pieces.
The collaboration later produced the more extreme AMB 001 Pro, which increased output to 225 horsepower and drew inspiration from Aston Martin’s Valkyrie AMR Pro hypercar. Limited to 88 units, the Pro version pushed the original concept further with revised aerodynamics and a more track-oriented setup.
For Aston Martin, the AMB 001 represents an experiment beyond four wheels. For Brough Superior, it offers an opportunity to combine specialist motorcycle engineering with one of the world’s most recognizable automotive design identities. The result is a rare machine that brings together two different traditions of performance culture in a thoroughly unconventional package.
