Bentley has introduced one of its most striking bespoke options yet, the Ombré by Mulliner paint finish. The idea is simple in theory but extraordinary in execution – a seamless fade from one colour to another across the entire body of the car. Ombré, the French word for “shaded,” has long been a staple in fashion and design, but Bentley has reimagined it as a moving canvas for its luxury cars.

The process is done entirely by hand at the Crewe factory, with two artisans spending close to 60 hours to achieve the perfect gradient. Different paints react differently when layered, which makes the finish unpredictable unless you know how to control every detail. That is why the result isn’t just rare, it is unique every time. Even two cars painted in the same combination will never be exactly alike.

Bentley offers three carefully chosen pairings to ensure harmony: Sunburst Gold into Orange Flame for a fiery glow, Tungsten into Onyx for a darker, more dramatic effect, and Topaz Blue into Windsor Blue, an elegant transition that first appeared on a Flying Spur at the Southampton International Boat Show. The same blue scheme later turned heads at Monterey Car Week on a Continental GT Speed.

This finish is not only the most labour-intensive but also the most expensive paint option Bentley has ever offered, priced at around £48,000 ($68,000). Yet for Bentley clients, this isn’t simply about colour. It’s a statement of individuality, a way to own something so personal that it borders on art. When light moves across the car, the gradient reveals itself with an effect no flat colour could ever achieve.
