Mercedes-AMG has taken a bold step into the electric realm with the Concept AMG GT XX, signaling the brand’s first all-electric, high performance sedan. This showpiece delivers more than suggestive style- it hints at the future of AMG’s electrified powertrains and battery innovations.

Powered by three axial flux electric motors- two at the rear and one at the front- the GT XX pumps out a staggering 1,340 hp and targets a top speed just over 223 mph (360 km/h). Yasa, AMG’s UK-based electric partner, engineered those motors, known for being 67% smaller and lighter than conventional radial-flux units, while boasting triple the power density.

The concept rides on the new AMG.EA platform, featuring a novel High-Performance Electric Battery (HP.EB). This pack uses direct-cooled cylindrical NCMA cells with silicon anodes and full-tab design- technology derived partly from Mercedes’ F1 and AMG ONE programs. Impressively, it can recharge roughly 250 miles (400 km) of range in just five minutes with up to 850 kW charging at around 1,000 A.

Battery tech like this not only supports blistering acceleration but delivers high sustained output without thermal degradation thanks to direct liquid cooling enveloping each of the roughly 3,000 cells.

Under the fastback silhouette lies the AMG.EA skateboard structure, made of aluminum, steel and fiber composites- striking a balance between weight reduction and torsional stiffness. Active aero continues the trend with 21-inch aero wheels featuring moveable blades that enhance brake cooling and reduce drag. LEDs integrated into the roofline, grille and sills add visual drama and expressive capabilities.

Inside, the layout is driver-centric and performance-oriented. A Formula-1-style steering wheel- borrowed from the AMG ONE- sits before dual digital screens (10.25″ instrument cluster plus 14″ central screen), while surfacing points to recycled LABFIBER material made from AMG GT3 tyres. The track-inspired vibe carries through with open-waistline center console and exposed structure parts lit in race-inspired orange tones.

Despite its concept theatrics, there are signs this is road-bound. It sports a real VIN and has production constraints like lower roofline and rear hatch. Michael Schiebe, AMG CEO, notes the underlying architecture is flexible enough to spawn production variants, including four-door sedans in 2026 and SUVs in 2027.

AMG will even simulate a V-8 exhaust note via the audio system- preserving the brand’s emotional appeal despite electrification.

The GT XX is AMG’s answer to high-performance four-door EVs like the Taycan Turbo GT and Lucid Air Sapphire. It represents Mercedes’ first purpose-built electric halo car, not an adapted combustion platform. Its blend of raw power, rapid thermal management, carbon-light construction, and futuristic aesthetics signals a turning point for AMG’s electrified identity.
