TAG Heuer and Porsche have introduced their latest creation, the Carrera Chronograph X Porsche 963, a limited-edition watch inspired by the high-performance Porsche 963. Limited to just 963 pieces worldwide, this new timepiece is a tribute to the iconic racing car, celebrating the partnership that began in 2021 with the Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition 44mm.
Both brands have deep ties to motorsport history, sharing a name with the legendary Carrera Panamericana race, known for its thrilling and perilous nature. They also have a long-standing connection with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where Porsche boasts a record 19 overall wins, underscoring its prominence in the race’s storied history.
Reflecting Porsche’s innovative design in the LMDh (Le Mans Daytona Hybrid) category, the Porsche 963 highlights the carmaker’s commitment to blending performance with cutting-edge technology. The new Carrera Chronograph X Porsche 963 celebrates this spirit, adorned in the classic Porsche motorsport colors of white, red, and black.
The 44 mm x 15.1 mm stainless steel case features black PVD-finished sides, a fine-grained hollow design, and is adorned with a 3D Porsche logo. A black forged carbon tachymeter bezel with grey markings and a white Super-LumiNova "PORSCHE" logo enhances its aesthetic and functionality.
Beneath a beveled, domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, the skeleton dial displays tubular shapes reminiscent of a racecar chassis, designed to reflect the robust engineering of motorsports. The sub-dials incorporate four Super-LumiNova blocks inspired by Porsche’s LED lighting technology, aiding visibility in low-light conditions – a critical feature for endurance racing.
This design ingenuity extends to the rubber strap, inspired by the NACA-style air inlets typical in Porsche race cars, secured by a stainless steel folding clasp with a safety push-button.
Powering the watch is the TH20-00 calibre, an in-house automatic chronograph movement visible through a transparent sapphire crystal caseback, which operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers an 80-hour power reserve.
As a nod to its exclusivity, each piece is individually numbered and presented in dedicated packaging, priced at CHF 9,000. This collaboration not only showcases TAG Heuer’s advanced chronograph technology but also celebrates the racing heritage that both TAG Heuer and Porsche continue to honor with every new model.
