O n the occasion of the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show – which took place last week at the picturesque Port Hercules – Ulysse Nardin launched its latest ultra-complicated marine timepiece. The Ulysse Nardin 2021 Marine Mega Yacht limited edition timepiece is available in a 44 mm 18K 5N rose gold case, that like the platinum edition from 2019, is regulated by a flying tourbillon that’s equipped with a tourbillon cage modeled on the latest generation of superyacht ship’s propeller.
Continuing the nautical theme, the dial has a gold motif of the ship’s bow in the center. On the left side of the dial is a precise 3D moonphase display with a unique two-function tide indicator (indicates tidal coefficients and volumes). Opposite the moonphase indicator on the right side of the dial is a 3D anchor raised by a chain, like on a real yacht, and attached to a windlass located at 12 o’clock, which together display how much of the 80-hour power reserve is remaining.
Gold hands, with large luminescent arrow-shaped tips, inspired by past Ulysse Nardin marine timepieces, display the hours and minutes and complete the yacht-themed aesthetic.
Underneath the openworked dial, and visible through the sapphire caseback, is the engine room, which houses the 3Hz hand-wound caliber UN-631 which measures 37 mm in diameter and has 504 total components that power the 60-second flying tourbillon, moon phase indication, power reserve indicator, tidal display, and the time.
A plaque on the left flank indicates the number of each limited edition “X/30.” And being that this is marketed at superyacht owners, and priced accordingly, the name or motto of your ship can be engraved in a plaque on the right side of the watch.
The Ulysse Nardin 2021 Marine Mega Yacht in 5N rose gold (Ref. 6312-305) comes with an integrated navy blue alligator leather strap, is water-resistant to 50 meters and is limited to 30 numbered pieces and the retail price is $306,000. So, it could be one of the most expensive watches in the world
